Almost Nothing: New Works for Frame Violins
Almost Nothing is an artistic collaboration with violinist Monica Germino exploring the sonic world of the lowest possible decibels in string playing and the first known artistic expedition into works intentionally written for frame (practice) violins.
The project combines instrumental experimentation in muting techniques with new commissions. It also includes international panel discussions spanning disciplines from audiology to contemporary art, interviews, performances, and curatorial production for the 2026 and 2027 Rainy Days Festival in Luxembourg.
While raising awareness of the growing epidemic of hearing loss among musicians, Almost Nothing seeks to inspire composers and audiences alike through the creation of new sonic possibilities, expanded listening practices, and radically quiet modes of performance.
